Hi guys, how are you? Coming back after a brief recess. I guess I've discussed a good number of basic grammar items in the meantime. Tonight let's talk about the use of passive verbs. Look below:
Active Verb:    The Romans did not build Rome in a day.   (not commonly used)
Passive Verb:  Rome was not built in a day. (commonly used)
Active Verb: They say he is very rich.
Passive Verb: He is said to be very rich.
Active Verb: People may regain lost money, lost health but not lost honour. (very uncommon)
Passive Verb: Lost money, lost health can be regained, but not lost honour.
Active Verb: The school management ordered the school to be closed for the next week. (very                                  uncommon)
Passive Verb: The school has been closed for the next week. (disregard tense)
Active Verb:  The authority has passed this order that none is allowed to leave before 4.00 p.m.
Passive Verb: An order has been passed that none shall leave before 4.00 p.m. 
Active Verb: The Judge ordered to hang the criminal to death.
Passive Verb: The criminal was ordered to be hanged to death. (although not strictly grammatical) 
  The above are a few example how passive verbs can be used to shorten the sentence and also to make its meaning simple and easy.
